The winter winds have made way for the summer breeze along with the summer heat. As my days pass in getting at the affairs of daily life, I am in mood to embrace changes. One of of the surer ways to lift any dull day is to add colours to it. Like the bright blooming Butea monospearma or the commonly known “Palash” flower signalling spring in Bengal, I want to wear all that which resonates with my mood. Given that the “Festival of colours” or Holi is just a few days away, this seems like the right time to add colours to my wardrobe which is dominated by black, blue and grey. I chose this dress in bright rust orange which stands out firmly in my wardrobe filled with neutrals and reminds me daily to embrace changes that are coming about my life.
Oversized dresses are often discarded on the conception that they make one appear larger than they are. But I harbour a certain weakness for them. I usually find websites and magazines providing guidelines on how to avoid such unflattering silhouettes. Yet I do encourage you to wear it not just for the fact that they have a beautiful form or that you can twirl in them but also because they are much comfortable. When you buy your self something (be it clothes or anything else) envision what you want out of it and what role it shall play in your life after your purchase. We often buy aimlessly which leads to junk, wastage of space, money and time and above all doesn’t make us happy. In times where consumerism is rife and you can’t help but feel that you need to have the next best thing for yourself or just about everything. It is too easy to be swayed away when you have so many options. But if you take a moment to consider before giving in, it shall benefit you greatly. It is a practice that I try to follow through even though sometimes it can be quite hard.
What you wear should evoke emotions and put forth your personality to those before you. The dress reminds me of the summer sun, the light breeze and the dewy mornings and the blooming of spring flowers. It conveys to me the emotions of happiness and warmth. If you don’t feel strongly connected to something it can not make you feel good inside out. Though this dress looks just as good with white sneakers, I chose to go for a made up look which in fact turned out to be just as great with the addition of light makeup, a simple earring and a pair of old wedges. The look is quite something for those summer lawn parties where you want the ease of wearing something great without compromising on comfort. I, therefore look forward to some interesting adventures in this dress in the months ahead.
